Digital Environmental™ Acquires Rice Mapping Technology.
Digital Environmental™ has entered in an agreement to Licence ?Soft-logic technology from GEOMARC Technologies Inc. This technology was originally developed by DevelTech with support form the Canadian Space Agency under the RUDP Program (see C. Chen and H. McNairn, 2006)*.

Although specifically developed for rice, this technology has been evaluated in other areas including medical imagery. Digital Environmental™ initially intends on using this technology for forecasting rice yield. This acquistion complements the expertise Digital Environmental? has developed in object oriented classification using eCognition.

Digital Environmental™ Awarded Contract to Classify Saskatchewan Forests.
Saskatchewan Environment has awarded a contract to Digital Environmental™ to update forest cover classification for the Provincial Forest. This classification is developed on primarily Landsat 5 imagery. Digital Environmental has pioneered the use of statistically based approach classification for this application.

The landcover classes that are produced are converted to forest fire behavior fuels types used in spatial fire management information systems. Digital has been producing landcover information for fuel types since 2002.

Digital Environmental™ Purchases eCognition.
eCognition is the world's first object-oriented classification system.  Developed by Definiens Imaging, eCognition is a powerful, intelligent tool that focuses on objects, as opposed to pixels.  eCognition also includes contextual analysis tools.  eCognition is the recommended software tool for high-resolution image processing.

The inclusion of eCognition to Digital Environmental™'s suite of tools will expand and improve images processing services.  With this purchase, Digital Environmental™ joins the small, select group of Canadian Companies with this software.
